A novel structural motif, quasi-ß-helix, with conserved sequence as "Gly⁴⁰- Pro⁴¹ - Gly⁴²- hydrophobic residue⁴³- Asp⁴⁴- polar residue⁴⁵ - Pro⁴⁶ - cis-Pro⁴⁷ - Xxx⁴⁸- Gly⁴⁹" (bold-type residues: absolutely conserved; Xxx: any amino acid residue) in most cad1 repeats of cadherins, but not in other cad repeats.  (Chime animation)
